So It's Been a While....

I started this blog on my page and thought, I'm doing it Harry, I'm really going to commit to this blogging. So far, I've kind of been failing at it! I could make up a hundred excuses of why I haven't been doing it, but the reality is I got busy, having some normalcy.
For over a year now we've been living in what feels like Groundhog Day, the movie, the only thing missing is for Ned Ryerson to show up selling life insurance. At this point I sure as heck fire wouldn't be surprised if he did though! Kind of feels like we're beating a dead horse here with the revolving circuit breaker resets, lockdowns, flatten the curve, we're all in this together, we can move into the next stage...right after we change the goal posts...again. As Ellis Grey said in Grey's Anatomy "The carousel never stops turning." Well fuck, this is one ride I'm ready to bail on!
The one thing in all this that changed, is that some leniency was extended to our kids and they've been able to practice school sports, YAY!! I don't know about you, but I feel like sports and organized extra curricular activities are pretty important for the mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing of kids and teens. To date, they're not allowed to play games, only practice. My kid's teams show up faithfully twice a week and commit the time and effort, because they want some normalcy in their lives. I coach one of those teams, because our senior men's basketball coach is on a medical hiatus this year. Check out Moving Mountains for Mighty Max ( mightymaxsych.org ) or follow him on Facebook or Instagram to read about his journey and why his mom stepped away from coaching this season.
I'm not new to the coaching program, but I'm new to this team. I've coached some of these boys before, but not all of them. The veteran players are quite fond of their coach, truthfully so am I! She rocks as a coach, as a mom/medical mom and as a person in general!! I was left with some big shoes to fill in her absence, even though my feet are technically bigger than hers, metaphorically speaking I was drowning in the shoes she left me! This meant I needed to spend time looking at new drills, new skills, things to keep them learning, engaged, working hard and having fun at the same time. All this learning and researching takes time. 2 - 2 hour practices a week take time. Running my other kid back and forth to practices also takes time. This is time well spent! I've missed this over the past year. In a normal season we'd have multiple games a week (between both of my kids) travel and tournaments. We'd be balls to the wall because along with school and sports, there's work and farm chores. Which would mean less time for northern lights and blogging. We're not running balls to the wall though so I spend a lot of time not sleeping so I can catch the lights and that leaves little time for this blogging shenanigans!
With our season about to wrap up I want to do something for the boys. They've worked hard, they've practiced hard, they've shown up even when there was no reward of a game or tournament in sight. They've persevered in these weird and trying times and I'm proud as hell of them! So instead of sitting here and blogging to myself basically as I don't even know if I have 2 followers, lol! I'm going to take the time to get my gear packed up so I can take some team pictures for them tonight. Give them something to remember this season by because there are no medals or banners to be had to display on their walls.
Whatever you're doing today, I hope you have a fantastic day!
Until next time...
