Science Schmience

All week the science, the data, the indicators and predictors called for big lights on Saturday night. This got myself and a whole shit ton of other aurora chasers super excited. I scouted some locations in the daytime. I got in touch with the landowner because they have a beautiful barn I wanted to photograph. I watched the data, it looked good, it looked strong. I packed my gear, threw on extra layers because even though it's spring it's not always warm at night and headed out for the night.
Well, an almost full moon and indicators that were full of shit made my evening not quite what I thought it was going to be.

It wasn't necessarily the evening that I envisioned out with this barn. I've thought a long time about this location. The craftsmanship of this beauty is to be appreciated. It's location isn't that far from me, but it's definitely out of my normal shooting area. I pictured a sky full of lights, not just moonlight, and big bold beautiful colours as well as those soft muted ones that start or end the evening. Instead I got a few tiny blips of colour and shapes and a barn that almost looks like these photos are taken during the daylight, go figure!
I'll try again another day when the moon is less full, the bears are out in full force. Hopefully the science has it right this time or else the only thing going to be lit that night is a cigarette as I try to send tiny smoke signals that the critters of the night should stay away.
Have a great weekend!
